How to get rid of Marijuana Odor

The easiest way to get rid of marijuana odor in your home or car is to simply not smoke indoors, however, the fact that marijuana is illegal to smoke in public means that if you don’t live out in the country like I do. The only option you have is to smoke in hidden places or inside your home. Here is the problem; the smell of marijuana is very distinct. As a consequence of that, if mom decides to pay you a random visit, her heart may break as soon as she walks through your front door and smells the sweet smell of ganja.

“What is that smell?” mom may ask, “I think it’s the neighbor’s new Italian vacuum cleaner” you may reply knowing full well that you will burn in hell for lying to your sweet mama.

The thing is, the more weed you smoke the less sensitive you become to its smell, meaning, your living room, bedroom. Kitchen or even car may smell like Snoop Dogg’s garden and you may not realize it. One way to find out if your home smells like weed is to invite a non-user such as your mom to come over and tell you what your home smells like.

When you smoke weed inside your living room, the fabric and the stuffing inside your couch absorbs its smell. To prevent that from happening, you should consider covering your furniture with plastic. Not only will doing that increase the value of your sofa upon resale, it will also keep your home from smelling like illegal drugs.

Let’s assume that the deed is done and your couch now smells like weed, what should you do?

On a warm sunny day, take your couch out and leave it under the sun. If that doesn’t get rid of the smell, you will have to wash or clean it manually. You know how to do that right? Come on, water, soap or dry carpet cleaner and a vacuum cleaner. It’s not rocket science, is it?

The Walls

Buying a new home or is there a smell in your home that’s making you and everyone else in there suspect that a member of the family is secretly smoking ganja? It could be the walls or maybe someone such as your neighbor has a secret marijuana garden.

If you grow weed indoors and you don’t have proper ventilation, your home will smell and in some cases so will your neighbor’s home. That smell may attract attention from curious neighbors or the police.

Yesterday, Vancouver Sun reported marijuana complaints are on the rise in Metro Vancouver. See the thing is, marijuana doesn’t smell like daisies and lots of people are not used to its smell, meaning, the smell irritates some people. So, the question is, what can you do to get rid of marijuana odor from your walls?

Can you tolerate the smell of bleach?

Bleach is great for killing odors, but the issue is it has a strong scent of its own. To ensure that you don’t damage or lighten the walls too much, you should first test the bleach solution on a hidden area of the wall.

It’s worth mentioning that mixing bleach with cleaners that contain ammonia may trigger the release of a toxic gas that may kill you. There is also the fact that ammonia may encourage your pet to pee indoors.

The Carpet

If you don’t have the money to hire a professional carpet cleaner, you should take your carpet outside and leave it under the sun for some hours. After that, sprinkle baking soda generously all over and let it sit for a day.

If that doesn’t do it, you will have to get down and dirty. What you have to do is get on all four knees with a carpet brush in hand and clean your carpet manually using baking soda/white vinegar and warm water.

Smoke Odor

While smoking, smoke gets caught within the fibers of your clothes. Because of that, if you don’t wash your clothes and shower after smoking weed or cigarettes, you will smell bad. Ever sat next to a heavy smoker whose greatest fear on earth is soap and water?

To keep yourself from walking around smelling like a diesel engine, you should do the following:

  • Smoke outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. If possible, invest in air fresheners or febreeze.
  • Use hydrogen peroxide or baking soda while doing laundry.
  • Wash your clothes multiple times and hang them in the sun.

Generally, it’s all about cleanliness. Therefore, Dedicate at least one day each week to clean your room, car or wherever you smoke. Doing that will keep the smell of weed from pilling up and your home will smell fresh all year round.

I live in Manhattan and I have lots of neighbors. So what to do about smell. First I have a Febreeze plug in air freshener right by my front door. I also put in at the bottom of my door a device that keeps the smoke from going under the door. I also have an exhaust fan running 24-7. Lastly and probably most importantly I use a SMOKEBUDDY. This is a handheld device that uses no electricity. You take a hit a blow it into the Smokebuddy. It is amazing because you can take a very large hit and blow it into the Smokebuddy, no smoke will come out. Smell problem resoved.
